We’ve Got Wildlife!

On the western edge of the Tongass National Forest, Sitka Sound is an amazing place that is absolutely teeming with life. We've got:

Whales-- humpback, gray, fin, minke and orca. Steller sea lions, harbor seals, sea otters, porpoises and jumping salmon, as well as puffins, murres, murrelets, auklets, eagles, brown bears and many other wild animals are abundant residents. Those interested in photographing wildlife will be positively delighted.

Three and four-hour tours as well as fully customized trips are available. While specific destinations and habitats visited are weather and sea-condition dependent, we regularly experience many of the animals listed above.

While our 3-hour tours are fabulous, 4-hour adventures are even more fabulous. The extra hour affords us time to range further, experience more diverse habitats, encounter more animals and linger more leisurely with the animals we do encounter.

On our four-hour trips we routinely visit Saint Lazaria Island National Wildlife Refuge, which is one of the most special places in the area. Here we can see incredible congregations of seabirds as well as birds of prey, colorful inter-tidal organisms and marine mammals all in the setting of a dramatic volcanic island. For those who love the natural world, Saint Lazaria may just be the “Center of the Universe.”

Private customized tours will provide you with an adventure that is sure to be your Southeast Alaska highlight. We can arrange for your wildlife trip to be in combination with one of the following private experiences:

Guided hike, up a sleeping volcano, along a uniquely designed trail with some of the most incredible views on Earth.

  • Float-plane flight-seeing trip
  • Guided wilderness kayak adventure
  • Invite a local expert (scientist, author, etc.) to join our tour
  • Raptor Center tour
  • Walking tour of historic Sitka
